We're creating an exciting new platform to enable customer service teams to hit their service targets whilst improving morale within their team. We’re building an end-to-end solution that centralises data, makes forecasts, schedules agents fairly and provides them with tools to put development and training at the forefront of their experience. Your role

Own and lead Surfboard's go-to-market playbook covering building our brand, developing and converting a sales pipeline and setting up our support and retention practices.
Empathise deeply with our customers, understanding their problems and requirements using these to input into roadmap prioritisation.
Be a core member of our founding team, helping to shape the future of Surfboard and how we grow and build a best in class product to solve our customers needs, working closely with product, engineering and data science.
Develop our messaging including defining how we communicate messaging for key products and features, considering factors like our value proposition, target audience and competitive landscape. This means you will also be directly involved in our copy and branding.
Contribute to our expansion plans – developing a strategy for how we internationalise and move between the mass market who use spreadsheets and enterprise segment where we would be replacing existing software.

About you

  • Think deeply and really care about the customer problem - you can put yourself in the shoes of existing and prospective customers and can communicate how Surfboard can make their lives 100x better.
  • Experience with product marketing specifically - we're targeting a product and brand led growth strategy and want to make sure we have the right product alignment, positioning and pricing within our segment.
  • Are passionate about our mission. We're not just building a tool that improves efficiency or a "better scheduling tool". We're building something that fundamentally improves the lives of customer service teams and provides fairness and fulfilment to this otherwise underserved function.
  • Have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal - you can synthesise what we do in email and cold outreach messages, pitch our product and value proposition in meetings and refine our brand messaging to align with what you are learning from our customers.
  • Balance high level strategic thinking with on the ground execution. You have an ability to think in the clouds while being in the weeds at the same time.
  • You have experience making things happen quickly without sacrificing quality.

👎 This might not be a good fit if you:

  • Want to only do strategy. We need a strong generalist who can develop a strategy, build a pipeline, revise and write copy and manage both an inbound and outbound approach, plus everything that comes with the early stage startup hustle.
  • Are looking specifically for line management opportunities in the near term – our focus this year is making sure we have processes that can scale, which means you'll be hands on with everything before we grow the team.
  • Want to build a traditional sales team set-up. We are driven by a mission to empower teams and make customer service a better industry to work in. This means our approach to go-to-market is going to be unconventional and deepy driven by brand and connecting emotionally to our customers.

Let's do this

We respect your time, and aim to keep our interview process as quick and simple as possible. As a fast-moving small company we keep the process flexible, but it typically consists of:

  1. Get to know each otherYou’ll speak with Natasha (Founder & CEO) for 30-45 minutes so she can find out more about your background, approach to go-to-market, and to tell you more about the role and Surfboard.
  2. Product interview30 mins with Matt (CTO) who will dig into what you’ll bring to the Surfboard team, how you typically interact with Product & Tech teams, and you can find out more about the Surfboard technology and customers.
  3. Whiteboard exerciseWe’ll get together – preferably in person, but remote is also ok – for 1.5hrs to work through a fictional go to market challenge.
  4. Meet the team30-45 min call to get to know a few more of the team. They'll want to know what it's like to work with you, and you'll have opportunity to really dig into what life's like at Surfboard.
  5. Offer!We'll get back to you ASAP, and set up a call to go through the details of your offer and answer any final questions you may have.
